COOLANGATTA/QLD (23rd June, 2015): BCU is backing one of the biggest sporting events in Coffs Harbour by becoming the naming rights sponsor of the Australian Surf Festival.More than 500 surfers from around Australia will contest the two-week surfing showpiece from July 31-August 17.BCU’s Chief Executive Lyndon Kingston said, “We’re proud to be supporting Surfing Australia in bringing the 2015 Australian Surfing Festival to Coffs Harbour. Being a local financial institution, we’re passionate about our community, and events like this bring competitors and spectators to our region which contributes to our economy while also promoting a healthy lifestyle.”In addition to naming rights, BCU will be providing a $100 bank account for the #bcumoneyturn, which will be awarded daily to the surfer who executes the biggest turn as determined by the judges. BCU also has support rights to Indigenous Surfing Day, held during the festival.The BCU Australian Surf Festival will see National titles decided in Open Surf Masters, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard divisions.BCU Brand Ambassador, Coffs Harbour surfer and two time World Champion longboarder, Harley Ingleby said, “It’s been great to have BCU’s support on a personal level over the last couple of years, but to see them step up and support longboarding and other surf disciplines at the National level is really exciting.”"To win a National Title is the most prestigious event you can win in Australia and it’s awesome to have the upcoming event in my backyard.”Coffs Harbour is home to a number of great beach break options that work in a variety of wind and swell conditions. The main base for the event will be Park Beach which is located north east of the Coffs Harbour CBD. Coffs Harbour will play host to the biggest gathering of surfers in the country when the Australian Surf Festival is held from July 31-August 17.More than 500 surfers from around Australia will contest the two-week surfing showpiece.National titles will be decided in Open Surf Masters, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard divisions.Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said the event promises to provide a boost to the local visitor economy.“The Australian Surf Festival will see more than 500 competitors from around the nation descend on Coffs Harbour this winter, filling our hotels and restaurants and boosting our local visitor economy. I’m happy that the event was secured for Coffs Harbour by the NSW Government, and look forward to this great event coming to our city,” he said.Coffs Harbour City Council Mayor Denise Knight said the region was the ideal location to host the festival.“I have the pleasure of living in the most beautiful city in NSW with its glorious beaches, this festival will bring vibrancy and activity to our pristine beaches from Arrawarra in the north to Sawtell in the south,” Cr Knight said.“It’s a wonderful way to showcase our city and of course our beaches by welcoming with open arms the 500 competitors, their families and their friends who will be visiting our region over those three weeks.”Former World Championship Tour surfer and Coffs Harbour local Lee Winkler is looking forward to seeing some of Australia’s most talented boardriders competing for a prestigious Australian Title.“The Australian Title has and always will be the benchmark of grassroots surfing competition and something that is fiercely contested. Bells Beach, VIC/AUS (Friday, 29th May 2015): Former Australian Pro Junior Champion, Soli Bailey (Byron Bay, NSW) has been crowned Australian Indigenous Surfing Champion at Bells Beach today on Victoria’s Surf Coast.With multiple lay days throughout the week, the competition was finished in pumping 4-6ft waves on the final day of the event waiting-period.Bailey was unstoppable throughout the event winning every heat on his way to the final knocking out reigning event champion Otis Carey (Coffs Harbour, NSW) in the Semi Finals.The Final saw Bailey put Russell Molony (Central Coast, NSW) in a combination situation locking in the highest wave of the day, a 9.77(out of a possible 10). Bailey scored a heat total of 17.77 (out of a possible 20) to claim the coveted title.Molony could not find the waves needed finishing with a heat total of 8.00.“I am so wrapped just to be here with all the different tribes, it didn’t really matter if I won or lost ” said an ecstatic Bailey.“This event is so much fun, it’s a really relaxed event and everyone is just so happy to be here. It means to much to all of us.”“I am one of the youngest guys in this comp, so I am just constantly learning off all of the guys like Russ and Pagey and Otis.”Robbie Page has again taken out the Masters Men Division for the 3rd year in a row. The former Pipe Masters Champion, showed his composure in the solid swell with a series of under the lip turns and big carves.“I feel blessed and I feel privileged to be able to wear the title of Australian Indigenous Masters Champion.” said Page.“I’m really proud to be back again with all of the boy. They are all standouts in their respective communities.”“To be able to surf Bells in the 6ft range with only 3 other guys out is a special thing that we are all grateful for.”Page locked in one of the highest wave of the day with a 9.60 in the final.
