The Bay of Plenty Junior Surfing Team has conquered the 2012 National Scholastic Surfing Championships, at Fitzroy Beach, New Zealand. The Bay of Plenty team regained the title they have held for five of the past seven years, by placing eight of their twelve surfers competing in the finals. Auckland secured their best ever team performance with a runner-up spot and the defending champion Gisborne team placed third. The surf built throughout the day to 1.0m – 1.5m with yet more onshore winds which made conditions challenging but highly surfable over the full tide.
