We’ve got the latest Weekly Waimea Report with Mark Healey, plus a flashback to early Feb when the boys took a groundbreaking paddle in session at Jaws on Maui. They almost get cleaned up by a “20-footer” which looked a whole lot bigger than a two story house…
Waves of this scale are usually the domain of jet skis and tow ropes, whipping surfers into these massive walls of water with the surfer already up on their feet. This is the “The Old Way” man power, judgment, timing, placement and commitment. Phenomenal drops, with steam train rides, equaled only by walk or rather run on water wipe outs.

Healey explained how finding what he thought was perfect placement in the line-up was not as he first predicted:
As soon as I go, okay I’m going to go sit right on that peak then the set of the day comes in and it’s right on the head… it’s a 20 footer solid right on your face.
Not to take anything away from the crazy water-men who challenge the likes of Teahupoo with it’s awe inspiring pits and unearthly botox, no, steroid-filled lip, and others like Mavericks, Cow Bombie and many others around the globe. Not just paddling into these monsters, it’s the crucial drop elevator style with speed wobble and wind chop to contend with.
