Day One – Event 2

The next big event of Rip Curl‘s GromSearch got underway at Coffs Harbour today and saw plenty of top shelf surfing. The first day of the four day Rip Curl GromSearch, was run in big, quality waves and the best 16 and under surfers from around the country offered some radical and committed surfing in the premier 16’s division.

Northern Beaches surfers Jordan Lawler (North Narrabeen) and Jake Thompson (Avoca) began with excellent heat scores. Jake nabbed the second highest score of the day (9.80 out of 10) for two absolutely critical turns on a 2 metre plus wave to set the beach alight. Queenslanders Kelly Norris (Coolum) and Jake Morrison (Currumbin) made also scored wins, with Kelly locking in the first perfect 10 point ride of the event. “The waves have heaps of power and I managed to get a good one that allowed me to do some turns. Stoked that the judges gave me a ten, you don’t get them every day!” he said.
