Google Doodle celebrates the 125th anniversary of Duke Kahanamoku’s birthday. Have you seen it? Matt Cruickshank, a visual artist from San Francisco and a member of the Google staff, depicted the father of modern surfing in a simple and iconic 16-foot wooden surfboard. Duke’s warm Hawaiian smile is quickly perceived. Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku – yes, that’s his full name – was born on the 24th August 1890, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He lived 77 years and will always be remembered as the ultimate “Ambassador of Aloha.”
