Thirteen of Australia’s top junior male surfers are being put through their paces by former World Champion Joel Parkinson at the Subway® Summer Surf Camp at Casuarina in northern New South Wales.The 13 surfers won the Under 18 divisions during the Subway® Summer Surf Series held across Australia last summer and were invited to an all-expenses paid training camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) at Casuarina.Parkinson, the 2012 World Champion and a Subway® Summer Surf Series ambassador, surfed with the participants and took them through a video analysis of the session along with a question and answer session.“The Subway® Summer Surf Series has been a huge success and it’s great to see Subway® Restaurants supporting junior surfing in Australia,” Parkinson said.“It’s good to see what the future holds and the talent we have. In Australia at the moment the talent level is amazing and from a Series like this you can tell Australian surfing is in good hands.”The surfers at camp are:Jared Hickel (Cronulla, NSW)Noah Cooney (Byron Bay, NSW)Tane Bowden (Jan Juc, VIC)Luke Wrice (Coldedale, NSW)Rudy Davis (Clifton Beach, TAS)Kian Shahar (Byron Bay, NSW)Cooper Saunders (Seaford, SA)Chris Zaffis (Angourie, NSW)Duke Nagtzaam (Yallingup, WA)Felix Leaver (Yallingup, WA)Connor Lyons (Castaway Beach, QLD)Shane Dennis (Yamba, NSW)Jeames Young (Yamba, NSW)During each camp the surfers conducted a series of surfing sessions with video analysis and were given guidance by Australia’s top coaches at the HPC in competition strategies and strength and gymnastics training.At the conclusion of the camp the Best Performing Award will be chosen by Parkinson and includes $1000 provided by Subway® Restaurants.The boys’ camp concludes on Saturday and on Sunday the girls’ camp starts with the respective Under 18 female winners from the series joining World Surf League surfer and Subway® Summer Surf Series Ambassador Laura Enever.The girls’ camp will include;Holly Wawn (Newport, NSW)Paris Whittaker (Cronulla, NSW)Courtney Dunlop (Phillip Island, VIC)Lucy Callister (Palm Beach, Qld)Kirra-Belle Olsson (Avoca, NSW)Lizzy Stokely (Bruny Island, TAS)Bella Wilton (Manly, NSW)India Robinson (Jan Juc, VIC)Amy Gore (Christies Beach, SA)Alysse Cooper (Queenscliff, NSW)Emi Campbell (Denmark, WA)Bailee Hastie (Gracetown, WA)Alyssa Lock (Coolangatta, Qld)The Subway® Summer Surf Series, organised by Surfing Australia, was held across 13 events around Australia this past summer, showcasing the country’s best male and female surfers in the under 16 and 18 age divisions and under 21 category.The new series reinforces the Subway® brand’s commitment to healthy active living, and was created to fill a competition void which exists at a crucial point in the development of Australia’s leading junior surfers.The inaugural Subway® Summer Surf Series event saw more than 950 teens take part in 2014/15.
